Summary

The team tackled the problem of unhealthy eating in children and making educational books more engaging by creating an AR-powered solution that teaches about healthy eating through hands-on activities.

`As a UX/UI designer, my primary responsibilities included designing the quiz and the AR experiences, utilising tools such as Figma, Adobe After Effects, and Adobe Aero.

Outcome

An AR interactive storybook featuring Chef Munchi the panda and his friends as they guide children through recipes in a fun, engaging way. After cooking with a parent, children unlock an AR experience with voice triggers that teach nutritional facts about the meal they just cooked.

Key Insights from parents Interviews

Hands-on learning is vital for children, making fun and engaging activities essential for their development.

Children love spending time with their parents and most parents used activities like cooking, crafts and gardening to bond with their children.

Exploring different directions

The team explored multiple directions, all focused on hands-on learning and meaningful parent-child interaction.

After evaluating the ideas, the team selected a concept that was intuitive, user-friendly for both parents and children, and engaging using immersive storytelling powered by AR.

Our Approach

Learn through storytelling

A fun, engaging character teaches healthy recipes through an interactive AR story

Solidify understanding

Reinforced learning by taking a quiz to test key concepts from the story and the recipes learned

Learn by doing

Parents and children collaborate to prepare the recipes, bringing the knowledge to life through a shared activity

Make it meaningful

An interactive AR experience connects learning to action, helping children understand the nutritional value of what they just created

Development

The concept focused on three main elements: the physical book, AR experiences, and the app that linked everything together. The UX/UI team designed the app to be intuitive for parents and made the quiz simple for children.

The AR design posed challenges, leading to design iterations based on tech and time constraints. The team chose a comic-style design for these experiences. The team also developed the branding and corporate identity for the book range.
