Problem
Educational storybooks often fail to engage children, making it difficult to spark their interest, provide meaningful bonding time with their parents, and encouraging healthy eating habits

Our Solution
Making learning meaningful through storytelling, AR, and play

Teaching Through Storytelling and AR
Enhancing children's learning by combining storytelling with augmented reality to explain concepts in a more interactive way

Interactive Quiz + Rewards System
Reinforcing learning through engaging quizzes that provide rewards and motivation

Voice-activated educational experiences
Allowing children to engage with characters in their own creations, reinforcing what they’ve just learned
Connecting actions to learning
Understanding Challenges

With the rise of fast food and unhealthy eating habits today, many parents want their kids to eat healthy

Parents have busy schedules, making it difficult to plan engaging activities with their children
Learning from our users
Key Insights from parents' interviews
Hands-on learning is vital for children, making fun and engaging activities is essential for their development.
Children love spending time with their parents and most parents used activities like cooking, crafts and gardening to bond with their children.

User
Parent
“I prefer creative projects and educational activities. Like teaching house chores.”

User
Parent
“My daughter likes crafts and arts, like painting. I sit with her, she loves me spending time with her. That creates a bond between me and my daughter”

User
Parent
“She also makes sure she uses her hands all the time, to get that feel and touch.”
Existing solutions…
Often overlook the importance of parent and child bonding and meaningful reflection on what children do. The team reviewed current educational tools and noticed a gap in experiences that attach lasting meaning to children’s actions whilst also encouraging shared learning moments with parents.

Persona 1

Persona 2
Our Goal
An interactive storybook that enabled parents and children to create meaningful memories while teaching the importance of healthy eating.

Exploring different directions
The team explored multiple directions, all focused on hands-on learning and meaningful parent-child interaction.
After evaluating the ideas, the team selected a concept that was easy to use for both parents and children, and feasable.
Our Approach

Learning through storytelling
A fun, engaging character teaches healthy recipes through an interactive AR story

Solidifying understanding
Reinforced learning by taking a quiz to test key concepts from the story and the recipes learned

Learning by doing
Parents and children collaborate to prepare the recipes, bringing the knowledge to life through a shared activity

Making it meaningful
An interactive AR experience connects learning to action, helping children understand the nutritional value of what they just created
Development
The concept focused on three main elements: the physical book, AR experiences, and the app that linked everything together. The UX/UI team designed the app to be intuitive for parents and made the quiz simple for children.

Design Decisions
Design decisions driven by team discussions, user feedback, and iterative refinement
Designing for larger devices
To improve usability on larger devices, the team added buttons on either side to trigger book animations. This made for a more comfortable and intuitive experience
The buttoms were customisable to fit specific user needs and to adapt to different devices

Voice triggered interactions
The educational interactions, designed to educate on what the child just created, aimed to be engaging and meaningful
Initially, these interactions relied only on touch, but the team later introduced voice-triggered responses to make the experience more immersive and personal
